New Moon

The howling wind drowns out the merciless thunder,
The cascading rain spins patterns around me,
The soft thump of my heart soothes me,
Music in my headphones reassures my uncertain mind,
Twinkling stars light up my eyes,
Moon invisible but I know she's watching over the world,
Her halo faded behind a few shadows,
Leaves flutter on branches, eager to fly free,
Tomorrow night I'll see her again,
After all the dark isn't permanent,
Only a New Moon brings about darkness,
But all is forgiven,
Because she'll be back tomorrow.
