Nightmares

Lurking in the dark,
Observing your innermost fears and desires,
Pouncing at night,
Shivering, sweating, screaming, crying,
Wake up! Wake up!,
I can’t! I can’t!,
I'm trapped in a world of my darkest fears,
Unable to escape or even call for help,
Cut off from those you hold dearest,
Facing your own wrath over and over again,
Falling so fast, Falling so far,
Losing him, Losing her, Losing them all,
Shadows hiding in plain sight,
Ghosts pulling the strings,
Fear, Desire, Pain, Love, Loss, Innocence, War,
So much to lose, so little to gain,
No amount of repetitive pain will numb the fears Nightmares bring out.
