I made many failing attempts...

You see I bought you flowers this morning but, they wilted by noon...

Those just wouldn't do...

I bought you a box of chocolates but, they started to melt so I ate them for lunch...

I took your car to fill it up with gas but, I had a blowout and the car crashed...

I'm really sorry about that...

Don't worry I made it out okay...
