Ode to a Digger

A soldier died last night
There was no fear
There was no flight
When death embraced with all its might.
A cold dark cloak
A breathless choke
Without a sound
swept all around.
That barren land
Hot air and sand
Stole a life
During wasteful strife.
Death like a wave
Engulfed the brave
As they made a stand
In a foreign land.
So far from home
Their spirits roam
In battle they fought
Our freedom they bought.
A desperate plight
Far out of sight
A war of madness
Of evil and sadness.
We honour them still
We always will
Today and tomorrow
With pride and sorrow.
So stand tall today
And together we pray
That evil will perish
As their memory we cherish.
We will remember them.

This is my first poem. I was inspired by the Australian way of honouring the brave who paid and continue to pay the ultimate sacrifice in order that we may live in freedom.
Anzac day and the passion expressed at the service inspired me to write this and my wish is for it to be adopted and read at a ceremony to honour the brave.
I have no idea how or who to approach but it is my small thank you for those who passed away far from home defending our way of life.
really meaningful first Poem

Hello Steve...
Welcome to Cosmo!
Very honourable tribute!
Great write!
May I suggest perhaps starting at a VFW Post or An American Legion somewhere like that and speak to a Commander of someone in high rank and have this framed when you approach them...
I'm sure they would be happy to assist in offering suggestions for where you could go...
I hope that helps...
Thank you for sharing...
Hugs...
