Poem -

Death of a country town

Death of a country town

This dry land
Parched
In the damn blustering heat
The sun
Bellows
I am the Lord thy God
   Thirst
     In prayers
        Sunday church
  The farmer
      The grocer
The truck driver
    The doctor
       The child
 The dog
    The corn
        How long Lord
Before the grass is green again -
    The Lord
  The sun
      The dry
 The death
    Of a country town
