Poem -

Oh future, goodbye

As they laugh and they cry and they slumber and fight

As they think not of worlds end nor of this life's plight

They are not born, they fall out, a statistic in the books

Generational blame placed before and before that was mistook

For the parents and grandparents who failed to see

That a government raises our children, not you and not me

And for all who are not blind or manipulated by media frenzy

They may see that this is not a democracy, oh future for the youth, where art thee?

No, this is not a democracy, oh future for the youth, where art thee?

As they move through the years and their parents worse fears

That their children shall be beaten and bruised and bullied

With no recognition from the schools or from their MP

To tighten the rules on such an atrocity

Where bully's can be excused so easily

And the innocent child's life is no longer worry free

From evil and laziness and utter tyrany

And it is clear that a child does not count in democracy, Oh future for the youth, where art thee?

No a child is not part of a so called democracy, oh future for the youth, where art thee?

As the young boys and girls move up to secondary

They explore love in ways that are limited at 16 by legality

But the youth workers have been sacked, there is no morality

To be taught in the way that it there simply needs to be

And all this in the name of what? Our so called economy ?

Ha! Just so George can look resourceful and save the odd penny

And Michael piles on the pressure by reforming their GCSE's

In such a manner that working class children shall struggle to succeed

And only the rich shall have those precious opportunities

Like college and of course, university

The very reason they raise those tuition fees.

So even if they get there the strain financially

Will almost certainly force the working class to leave

With no voice, no hope, no democracy, oh future for the youth, where art thee?

No voice, no hope, no democracy, oh future for the youth, where art thee?

Then adulthood strikes as innocence of young days are lost

They make it through school but oh at what cost

For the Prime Minister announces with a cold look in his eyes

That nobody votes between the age of 18 and 25

And a whole generation is then criticised

For being lazy and apathetic and the issue does not arise

That these people have been controlled all of their lives

By a government that cheated them, they lied and they lied

And all for their plight simply to be politicised

Which leaves us only to summise

That democracy does not exist for  those 18-25's

As they are forced to live their lives, with no future, oh my

As they are forced to hang their heads and say, oh future, goodbye

Yes they are forced to hang their heads and say, oh future, goodbye

Oh future, goodbye

Oh future, goodbye
