OLD AGE

Well whoever “they “are that say; “age is but a number”
I agree; and counting forward when you’re only ten isn’t a problem!
But oh baby that “number” has moved past my years
Of having a perfect ass, firm thighs and curvy body!
The “number” has overtaken my physical and left my mental in tact!
Hey, but “it’s all good”…I just have a new “swagger”!
Now I am ready to live life as if it were the sweetest candy.
Couldn’t earlier because I had to work, had to raise my child,
Had to marry, divorce then fall in love with the wrong guy
Again and waste many years hoping he would change!
Went back to school, found balance in my life when God
Found me consuming quantities of Remy VSOP with Drambuie back!
Now I have this little health problem that prevents me
From drinking, eating chocolate, french fries and meat!
Oh, yeah, I have to exercise like crazy and drink water
Until my pee has no color and try to decipher the new
Math as I endeavor to assist my granddaughter with homework!
I have acquired so much wisdom by living this life of mine.
Finally, I can live it well, partake of it as a connoisseur; wear it
Like haute couture fashion and wash the gray out
Of my hair with a little help from my salon stylist!
Ok, so I’m definitely not in my prime, I’m well past it;
But I’m ready to fall in love one last time, ready to retire
And not have to set the alarm for work, and so ready
To see more, do more, enjoy more, live more of my life.
Old Age? Yes, I’m older but so very thankful that I am still here!

Yes, one has finally reached a wisdom and peace that is absent with youth. Â Thank you for your comments. Â valerie
Hi
I read with interest your autobiographic poem -it was well constructed and full of little confessions
that gave it credence.
The body fades but the wisdom glows with time
Enjoy the the beautiful mind you created for a lifes journey well taken

Hi Jude...thanks so much for your comments.  Yes, for me aging...realizing its importance has begun a new journey for me.  I am enjoying things that wouldn't have interested me in my youth.  I can laugh at my follies but know that in front of me are more exciting adventures!  I remember wonderful things...I was at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England when I screamed and almost fainted when the Beatles sung I Want to Hold Your Hand and I witnessed the birth of my granddaughter and held her even before my daughter to cut the cord.  Oh yes, I am truly enjoying the journey where my introspection it taking me!
