Old Doc

Old Doc

Old Doc

I spent my life walking the small country town.
Caring for the sick both day and night.
Anytime just call Doc he will come.
Rich and Poor disturbed my sleep.

I did not question why I did this.
But I knew the answer anyway.
My wife hated me
my children distant rejecting life.

So I turned to the townsfolk
drenched them in my care and my love.
Anytime just call Doc he will come

Then when I died at my funeral
how sweet to see the crowds
at my graveside.
Their words of
love and sorrow touching.

I could hardly move on
to start my new ghostly life.
Hanging onto
the rails of this moment.

Then in a mist behind the falling
branches of the ancient willow
I saw my secret
My Annette
hiding her tears
and her grieving sorrow.
