Old Friends

As your ruffled silhouette fades into the mist of the lake and reeds wave your farewell, I know we'll meet again

Just as your ancestor winked at me today from three decades ago when I sat on this bank and pondered my destiny

From the folds of memory your shadow will persist and seasons will roll on beyond my periphery

Your offspring will feed me your tales as ripples of the dreaming stir yet again at my approach

Perhaps it shall be my face that captures your essense once more in the glint of sunset

Or it may be we meet at the junction of my son or a grandchild

What is time or space when this love continues to weave in and out and leave such delicate trace
