On Being Mulatto (a bloodstream of black and white)

On Being Mulatto (a bloodstream of black and white)

If I speak
Of everything that's happened with me
Where I smile in secret
Surely, surely, slumber would be more sweet
The depths of me, lotically released
Through raging rivers my song would sing
Of the vicissitudes,
Some so profoundly plastacine
And others heavenly harmony
My life a battle
A dichotomy
A bloodstream of black and white,
Being mulatto
Did not come so easily
Took time and experience and a trail of tears
To wear who I am proudly
But now,
When I speak
Of everything that's happened with me
Where I wear a smile
In secret
I say surely, surely
God's plan has manifested
As so much Love in me
That black and white
I can no longer see
I see a blazing light
Deep in the soul
Of all humanity
And I fall to my knees
And I cry
Most gratefully...

My daughter's fiance is Mulatto, Tony.
His mother is Caucasian and his father is of Jamaican descent.
Josh's parents met on a cruise where Josh, my future son-in-law, was conceived.
He's one of the most level-headed, generous, compassionate, hard-working and mature 24-year-old kids I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.
Most important to me, he loves my daughter ferociously and I know he will always protect her, take care of her and be there for her.
He is probably my staunchest critic when it comes to my poetry. However, he's also my most adoring fan.
So, to make a long story short, I could easily relate to the sentiments expressed here.
Nicely penned, "T".

Hey PROFESSOR!!?....thanx for relating that story about Josh and his parents......I think it's MUCH easier to get along being a mulatto these days...... back in the sixties and seventies it was a different story.'...I love hearing stories like this one .....gives me hope for future possibilities the world over...... Apologies for the late reply I haven't been on COSMO for about a week......thanx again bro..... I'll be checking out some of your latest stuff in a while!!...... Stay groovy!! ?✴❤✴??✴

My friends are the people who somehow fit comfortably in my heart and make me happy to have a connection with them.......and I hope they feel likewise.
Their life history has made them who they are and allows me to embrace them  with joy, pride  and thankfulness that they are known to me..and again  I hope they feel likewise.
You, my friend, are unique and whatever you have been through has clearly created a wonderful human being  I am proud to call a friend. xxx

Dear poet sister LODIGIANA!!.......what a beautiful comment!! ❤......Most of my best friends feel EXACTLY the same way you do .....and it's interesting to think that since we are having this conversation right now..... it's VERY likely that similar conversations are happening the world over......I honestly believe that we are on the right path when it comes to this subject matter......I just think it will take another hundred years or so to be able to witness a genuine blooming empathy and understanding of other cultures and creeds .......but I'm a believer and pray that the those days come sooner than later!!..... Apologies for the late reply girlfriend...... I've been off of COSMO for a week and I'm a bit behind with everyone...... I'll be checking out some of your recent stuff soon........thanx again for always being so supportive of my work!!...... much love to you and yours!!...... Hugs n Smiles!!......T xo ??✴❤❤✴??

I love this poem.  I love the diversity that is within your spirit.  Many people do not know this but I am 1/4 American Indian (Seminole)   It is great that you take hold of that and I appreciate you for it.

My Dear Tony,

The technicolor of my black and white
Oft times brought turmoil, to me at night
I pondered over who I was
And what a black and white man does

.
But then I saw God's Golden Path
And disappeared my inner wrath
The color of a good man's skin
Means nothing, for we all are kin

Love you Bro,
Larry xxx
