On Ophelia Inspired by Jason Brown’s “Fall of a Sparrow”

Some say a gentle sparrow
Some say a hawk so fierce
Was her vulva pure and narrow
Or by many men been pierced
Was Hamlet her heart held hero
Or but a tool for access to the throne
Was it true she worshiped Nero
And her soul was cold as stone
When she climbed atop the Willow tree
Did she really slip and fall
Or jump and say "God take me"
Oh, the mystery of it all

Larry, my dear friend...
So glad you chose to post this. It is a work of exquisite beauty. As such, it's difficult to pinpoint one or two lines as 'favourite'...but I do have an especial liking for...
...the alliteration and phrasing here, particularly, appeals to me; but, really, the entire work is delightful, insightful and intriguing.
My own poem was prompted by Tony Taylor's piece on the same subject; the torch of inspiration getting passed between us from poet to poet, artist to artist, questioner to questioner: There may not be any definitive answers (or maybe there are?), but it's really rather wonderful that we're all asking the same questions!!
your friend & fan,
J ;)
My Dear Friend Jason,
You honor me so with these words of adulation. Thank you so much for your inspiration, and suggesting that I post it on my own page. It is so wonderful how we kindle each others minds and light fires in their hearts. This is an amazing coterie that we all share. It has been the fulfillment of my soul.
Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
Hi Larry This is Wonderful Although i only know the story
vaguely, my son did act in a modern updated version
of the story and I watched him in the theater,
A story with many questions of Ophelia`s demise
That you superbly interpreted through your own imagination
Great piece of poetry I enjoyed
Hi Dear Debs,
I originally wrote this to Jason, as a reply to his lovely poem. It is only at his request, that I published it on my own site. I owe him a great debt of gratitude for it's inspiration, and it's favorable comments. It is very interesting that you have a history through your son, dealing with Ophelia. I am so happy you enjoyed my version.
Hugs, Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
