On Turning 18

On Turning 18

How to react?
Should it be a flood of emotions
in the catacombs of my psyche?
Should these apparent notions
and thoughts equate to maturity?

I feel not the great breach
in the dam of my innocence.
I fear not the forthcoming wave
of drunkenness, drugs and nonsense.
I am but the same, and to say so brave.

Time has loopholes that gape
into the abyss of our hindsight.
Now I shall catch one, too quick,
and bask in the shedding light.

Time is harsh, unless you realize it’s passing.
And then, the greatest gift of all.

Time is harsh, unless you realize it’s passing.
And then, the greatest gift of all.

Insightful and mature; displaying an instinctive feel for language.

Excellent!
