On Writing
I find such holiday in reading great writers
Whose poetic song and imagery
Need not be aware
Of the effort compared
By sullen predecessors
For often I find the new writer's mind
Is content to swim
In self recognition
But,
The corruption of man is followed
By corruption of language
For language has most assuredly
Derived from observations on nature
And the mind's matching symbols
To objects observed
I find divinity in the images
Conveyed in simple words
The ballet created
When man preserves
Honesty in uttering
In portrayals and conveyances
I am in awe when I find
A simple bird
Aloft,
And in even greater surprise
When words deify
That simple bird in its flight
For,
No matter how I sweat
Or try to fly
I realize
I am but a simple poet
Who spends his time
Trying to divine
What great thinkers do
Who just seem to know
That bird in its flight
The loud in its quiet
By,
Climbing inside
Their observations
So easily,
I am in awe
And these,
Are but my observations
On difficulties
In writing....
