Once Upon a Dream

Once upon a dream

Your face came to me

I saw you in the shadows

Standing all alone

Your skin like diamonds

You shone with a beautiful glory

Out stretched a hand

But it fell like a weight

Hard to the ground

And your smile it faded

Like the sun hiding from the clouds

You spoke a name

A name that wasn’t mine

Rose, you spoke

Rose… what a glorious red

It’s a shade much darker than love

It shielded my view and blocked my thought

Such treachery I said

How horrible a deed you did

To speak such a name

Surely you must pay

Pay for that wretched rose

Rose oh what a glorious rose

Thorns like daggers

That cut ragged and rough

Seeping deeper and deeper

You feed the ground…

With that awful rose

Oh what a beautiful rose

In my dream you fade.

Like mist fleeing from the sun

I wake.

Covered in that dreadful rose…
