One Last Night With The Fireflies

One Last Night With The Fireflies

And as the fireflies
have one last danceĀ
around the night time of summerĀ

the air warm
a breeze soft on my cheeks
the smell of dry forestĀ
the sound of animals
desperateĀ for something to drinkĀ
the crackle of the bones
of the leaves under my feetĀ
rustling sounds of a porcupine

and I?

well ...

I lay down on the hard groundĀ
I open my eyes wideĀ
and I wink, at the great moonĀ

because tonight I share
one last nightĀ
with the fireflies.Ā Ā
Ā
