One Ranger
Let me relate a story my friends,
A legacy of law; I hope never ends!
Legendary peace makers that came to be,
Multiple heroes; rode into history!
This tale speaks boldly of a famous one!
From the 1890's, another Texas son!
A scheduled prize fight in a Texas city,
The residents sent word; to have some pity!
Asked for a Texas Ranger company of men,
To come; take on the pending riot; and win!
Surprised! as Captain McDonald stepped from the train,
The residents didn't want to seem to complain!
Inquired about the rest of the company; and where?
Captain replied," just one prize fight; isn't there"?
This only presents a little raucous danger,
So they only sent me," one riot, one Ranger."

right on sparrowsong! now I have some cool electric zappers and other weapons to protect my own family! Anyone that comes in my house uninvited would wish for a lawman to save them! thank you!
Hi Jim, hope you are very well. Great poem that I very much enjoyed reading. I used to follow the exploits of the Texas Rangers as a kid and this write conjures up images of ten gallon Stetsons and silver stars as well as Glen Campbell´s music that brings back so many lovely memories. Thank you! Warm regards Jim. x
great to here from you Tony! thanks for commenting! all the best to you and yours!
You never fail to disappoint Jim in your wide ranging themes and eclectic imagination and this one delivers the poetry goods in spades.
A compelling write and is your last line the truth of what happened and was stated.
If so what man.
Thanks for sharing your well written and conceived sonnet Jim and it is good to grasp history and move it forward to the present, to let it live and breath again.
