Our Belated Wedding Gift
Our wedding gifts were piled high, others in fat envelopes;
Silver, Glass and cooking pans, more cash than for which we both had hoped!
At the time we did not realize, that the best one would be late;
For it took over eight years to be sent to us, after our June fifth wedding date!
.
In October of two thousand one, a note from Heaven arrived;
Saying “There is a place you must quickly go”, with directions to there drive!
I was out of town right then, but Mommy jumped into her car;
To follow the path being shown to her, by a sacred guiding star!
.
It took her to a breeder’s home, with a cache of seven pups;
Instantly she locked eyes with one, and felt her heart erupt!
For never before had she seen a dog, more beautiful and filled with love;
She knew the reason right away, it was a wedding gift from God above!
.
She picked him up and held him close, his little tongue wet her with kiss;
She returned each one in ecstasy, for he brought her joy and bliss!
After a while she set him down, and placed a sold sign by his name;
She said, “I’ll be back tomorrow morning”, as she left with heart aflame!
.
She called me up when she got home, with such excitement in her voice;
She said “We’ve just received a Blessed gift, for which we ever will rejoice”!
She told me all about him, and how their souls had merged as one;
I said, “You must quickly go and get him”, thus this tale had begun!
.
And so it passed the next morning, she went back and brought him home;
She took him in his new house, and all over it he roamed!
It took not long for her to train him, to do his business on the lawn;
She slept with him alone at night, as for another month I still was gone!
.
Finally with the business done, my long trip would come to end;
I was heading home for the Holidays, with lots of time to spend!
We had chosen his name of Nico, in honor of our dear Nickie;
Who at thirteen sadly went to Heaven, the year after Mommy had met me!
.
As I pulled into the driveway, my heart began to pound;
For it was the first time I would see him, this treasure Mommy found!
I walked into the front door, and saw a blinding blur;
For he was very fast approaching, this mass of long white fur!
.
I hit the floor real quickly, as he leapt into my arms;
He gave me lots of puppy love, and filled me with his charms!
I felt something enter in my body, that made me feel so whole;
It took not long to realize, it was the bonding of our souls!
.
I shall never forget that moment, when he took me to Nirvana’s Gate;
I knew that God had sent him, and he was our Angel Dear Soulmate!
We sent God a lengthy thank you note, for our “Belated Wedding Gift”;
We heard Him say “You are very welcome, your heads you may now lift”!

Hi Larry, lovely write, Nico is so lucky to have both of you...great emotional write. Thanks for sharing such a lovely piece. Lots of love and hugs.Â
My Dear Cleo,
As were we were so lucky to have Nico. Â He changed our lives, and was our gift from Heaven. Â Of course, we were very fortunate to get a second one, "Cody", but he did not come till almost two years later, and this poem was devoted to Nico, as are many others we have written for Cody. Â Thank you for your lovely words.
Hugs, Peace and Love,
Larry xxx

My Dear Debs,
It is so sad, when one loses a soulmate, and all that is left to fill their empty arms, are the beautiful memories of joyous times shared. Â We cry forever, for these images of the past could never sate what was taken from our futures. Â Thank you for your lovely words.
Hugs, Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
