Our House

We bought it old and rickety

Falling apart, that's for sure!

What once was grand in now in decay

Dead animals and mold stench up the walls

Layers of dog and cat pee help, too, I'm sure

So we cut the animals free and sprayed and sprayed bleach

Tore up the floors right down to bare concrete

Where black mold had festered, some even grew up

That got bleach, too, and also a scrub

We scraped three layers of grew paint from kitchen counter tops

The sweet little old lady we bought it from was blind and couldn't see

A do-it-yourselfer to a fault!

So now we'll live in the rich side of town

In a house with no floors and holes in the walls

A work-as-fast-as-we-can-afford in progress

I'll admit, I suspect we got scalped

But I love my little house with the big back yard

Citrus trees, pecan tree, garden plot and all!

When it's done it'll be our dream come true

A sad dump turned pristine castle

Already, it's slayed a big dragon and saved my marriage

And I couldn't ask for more!

Just remember to change the locks and buy a windowless front door...
