Packing For Eternity

Packing For Eternity

Packing for Eternity

The door closes
with familiar sound.
Outside on the steps
my suitcase in my hand.
How can such a small bag
contain all I will need for
Just a few days of eternity,
until I see you again?
I left my hotel number
on the fridge door.
Held by a magnet
like the one that
holds me to you.
Instructions are
on the table
with the
dogs medication.
The cab door closes
and we purr away from you.
It seems our singular existence
has split in two.
And each piece now
has a life of its own.
