Past Regret

Past Regret

I'm sorry I failed you,
As I wasn't there,
For I drank your years by,
And now I despair.

I could have done better,
Not left you alone,
As I was in bedroom,
My den in our home.

I'd drink and then pass out,
You seeing this shame,
And for this I'm sorry,
My sin as to blame.

My wish is to go back,
Those years you were young,
And do it all over,
But this wish won't come.

I hope to do better,
In future to come,
And pray to be better,
For you, my dear son.
