Poem -

People Say

People say blood is thicker than water…

 Family, is the ultimate code.

Through thick and thin,

They're always there... to help unburden the load.

People say family, means “I got your back” or,

I am on your side.

There’s an unspoken understanding,

they’re here and along for the ride.

People say there’s nothing, that breaks a family bond…

Nothing deeper or stronger.

Nothing on earth quite like it, And nothing will last longer.

People say family is bound by code and honor,  upheld by a higher power.

You’d kill for- you’d die for-you’d stop at nothing to protect.

So how on earth are so many hurting-

If FAMILYdoesn’t reject!!

How can a brother not speak to his sister

Tho she asks for nothing in return?

Is the family bond not deeper than something that is learned?

How can a sister turn her back, just because she doesn’t agree?

Keep nieces and nephews away out of spite.

All in the name of “You’re wrong- I’m right”

How can a mother care more about herself-

Not mend the broken she has caused.

Simply walk away and go about,

Denying any wrong- without a moments pause.

What if you are stuck,  inside this family curse?

When in your darkest moment no one cares... or worse.

When it comes down to that moment

when you simply realize,

That family isn’t blood nor water,

just a word to therorize.

All I know is what I’ve seen-fake words and a lot of lies.

Pretending isn’t worth it, I can see it in your eyes.

People say, People say, I’m sick of what people say-

Stating “I am family” as they walk away.
