Poem -

The Place

I never lived there, never knew what it was called.

I would see the see the bright coloured leaves

Desperately trying to escape from the branches.

Madness, I thought.

I would make a deal with them, we could swap places.

My life was destined for misery, I’d much rather follow their path.

Sometimes, if I was good, I was allowed to stop, and stare.

Sometimes, if I was quiet, I could hear the shrieks of the children.

Sometimes, if I was clever, I could sneak off and try to run.

Run into the distance, down the path, to the stream, to whatever was next.

But I never knew, I never got to find out.

I swore I was going to reach it, but the Bulldozers got there before me.

As they destroyed the trees,

I destroyed it in my mind,

Stored it away

Never to be found again.
