Poem -

A Place So Far Away

I was a boy and oh so young, full of live and full of love

When my grandma told me of a place we all would go someday,

But the young unlike the old, never listen what they’re told

So I didn’t believe in such a place, a place so far away.

In my youth I met a girl, and she became my whole world,

We used to go down to the fields, for hours we would play,

Her voiced flowed like a stream singing softly in my dreams

I dreamt of her and not a place, a place so far away.

Mi amor and my life soon she had become my wife,

We took our vows to join in one on that most sacred day,

I stood there with my love and I never worried of

A place that seemed so distant, a place so far away.

Our life was surrealistic, full of loving, optimistic,

We laughed and kissed down in the fields where we would always play,

Never was life sour, when I held my wondrous flower,

And I didn’t think about a place, a place so far away.

One day she started aching, so I took my sweetest love in

To find a cure so we might go outside again and play,

But what they had discovered would take my one true lover

To a place I’d only heard of, a place so far away.

The doctors soon detected a plague that had infected,

We said that we would win this war death wouldn’t have its way,

She never gave up fighting as I prayed to the Almighty

To keep her from that phantom place, that place so far away.

But the virus kept progressing and her health went on regressing,

Life took her to ocean as I sat there in the bay,

She sat there coughing, wheezing, she sat there barely breathing,

She headed towards that place I feared, that place so far away.

I watched my wilted flower as she drew her final hour,

And she left me in this world which now had turned a darker grey,

She left me all alone as I cried over her bones,

To God I pleaded for that place, that place so far away.

But I stayed here sang my song and my breathes they carried on,

Day by day though, they grew shorter as I started to decay,

I waited for death’s shadow to come to me and bestow

A gift to take me to that place, that place so far away.

Now I lie here bleeding red I see a man approach my bed

And I feel it deep down in my bones that this world ends today,

And time she stops her sands as he takes me by the hand,

and takes me to that place I’ve longed, that place so far away.
