PLASTIC

PLASTIC
I see you,
A rainbow shard,
Enticing.
Swirling and whirling and curling.
Unhurried, uncaring, hidden under sun-lapped waves.
Green fronds entangle and dance with you, adding colour.
For a moment I lose you and I'm afraid,
Then there you are, sparkling, drawing me towards your light.
Your acrobatic twists and turns take me to deeper places.
You shine against the grey rocks.
I'm pulled by wispy fingers, my hunger sharp, and raw,
Wide open, ready, I engorge your sly sliver of light.
I crush and bite, wait for the flesh of food,
But all I taste is sharpness and splintering spite.
A jagged path from mouth to belly, a watery trail of red
Marks your soundless journey.
You were thrown by a million hands in fun,
Transparent bullets riding the watery world,
Their journey a lunar pull across a world of oceans.
I carry you now, I twist and turn,
My silent pain buoyed by a Lorelei of shimmering shards,
Silent, unseen wounds and scars cannot signal danger.
Inside I slowly rot while I twirl in the rays of light,
My scales capturing your reflection
In my dance of death.
