Please Allow Me To Pick Your Brain

This old man I see before me that one day I will become,
Takes a liking to this acquiring competent young.
I was raised right with morals and respect,
When approached by my elder my manors I didn't neglect.
Knowing of his so many years I had questions to ask,
He shook his head with a grin and set me to task.
This didn't sit right with me sending my mind racing,
I'd soon be forgetting my chores off in deep thought pacing.
Some days were long and enduring but I managed to finish,
Finally the wise would instruct no matter how much I was diminished.
As tired as I was so relaxed to easily listen,
He filled me in on the things I was missing.
For years our system worked on a basic trade,
I provided with the daily work and instilling the knowledge is what he paid.
I picked that old man's brain as much as I could,
The valuable lessons he taught did me much good.
For the one day that has finally come,
When I'm the old man teaching the inquiring young.
