Prejudice

Prejudice

Judging others on their colour and creed

Has led to some appalling deeds

In this ever shrinking world

A generation has to be told

Of what happened in the past

So peace and love can be given a chance

So man can live as one

And goodness can triumph, not undone

If prejudice rules the day

War and hatred may be here to stay

So let's have a common aim

To treat every one the same.

I come from an interracial family and the prejudice I encountered as a child, was really something.  My mother's hair was blond and my father was as black as night...we lived on military bases throughout the US and in Europe.  I grew up as a military brat (USAF).  The only place in Europe where we had problems was in Germany...but here in the states it was really terrible.  Oh, and prejudice is certainly alive and well in Texas!  Thanks so much for this write!

My pleasure. My cousin is half Somalian, half British so I know what some mindless bigots think ! Racism and hatred has caused so much strife in the world it is incredible that some still follow the road of prejudice. Thank you so much for your comments. x

Richard,

My hat comes off to you, for such a power pack of words, in this one little poem.To bring closure to all things, there has to be some form of a starting point and you sir has set the bar for that point in this poem. The ability to set a side differences and not hold an individual or group of individuals accountable, for the actions are sins, of our for fathers, should not be a form of chore but instead, a task and guide line, for (all) mankind to come to terms and live by. Compassion, understanding and the lack of fear, to accept all things that are different, such as yourself,(for others), allows you to walk through valleys of kings of all nationalities and genders, with fear of retribution, from no one, only returned kindness, shall be in store and your just rewards....Wish (all) people were as such and hope this poem, open some,(if not all), eyes of those,(of all colors), that still feel the need, to continue practicing the acceptance of a separatist state of being and state of mind...Job extremely well done...

Kind regards,
Jim
