Pretentious Poets
Pretentious Poets leave me dry
With Shakespearean words they love to try
21st Century sonnet blues
Is what you're writing really you?
Or just a dictionaryย youย have chewed?
Myself, I like to hear the real
How others out there really feel
The drama ofย life
The spice in a write
I can be pretentiousย too if I try
But I wouldn'tย want to climb too high
You see I'm all about the real
Writing verse about how I feel
There are all kinds of poetsย
Those who think that they know all
Looking down from on high
Unprepared for a fall
So let's celebrateย diversity
Inclusivity and positivity
And a warning to wordsmiths all
Don't climb too high lest you should fall.

I think I like my perch up here actually. Pretentious? Is talent in a lot of writers pretentious? How about we find those pretentious people? We see if they can actually do what they are listening to do?ย

I nearly missed this one. So glad to have just found it. Made me giggle more than a bit. I have never really got it when poets use pseudo Shakesperian words. I am a historian and I can tell you people HE WAS MAKING THE WORDS UP !
Invent new words,
explore imaginations worlds.
Write from the heart
not the head.
