Pretty's Price

Pretty's Price

Oh how wonderful it must be to be her
We’d love her body, her face, her hair
And all the people who would care
Because of a beauty oh so rare

It must be easy
Men fall at her feet
Every head is turned
As she walks down the street

Something so natural comes so easy
It’s ever so unfair
That she is blessed with such beauty
And everybody cares

Flowers and gifts must come to her daily
She must leave many hearts in her wake
All we can do is use clothes and powder
And any trick not to seem too fake

But something inside us is not so kind
Something inside makes us hate her
And when we’re all together she may well find
We’re all happy to convene and slate her

What about the endless advances from seedy men
And the constant belittling from pecking hens
On her own it’s hard to fend
Scathing words hard to amend

And soon she finds her only friends
Aren’t the girls who hate her
They’re all the seedy men
Who say they want to date her

But deeper and darker in the man’s mind
An uncontrollable desire these men may find
And when they see her vulnerable and alone
Their actions may not be so kind

Behind all the beauty there lies torturous expectation
A burden from which she cannot escape
And this beauty may drive men wild
Even to the sickening point of rape

But to be hated by many and scare the rest
Is a situation that isn’t the best
For a human being the sternest of tests
The label above you never lays to rest

The expectation never lays to rest
The wariness of you always a test
Always expected to look your best
And always defending an army of pests

And when she finds a man she likes best
One she likes better than all the rest
Not like the others she detests
He’ll leave her with great pain in her chest

He’ll stray because other beauties see him the same
He’ll stray because he’s a master at playing games
Different identities and different names
He’s never the one to bear the brunt of pain

Yet they still sit together and scathe
Look at her with the pretty face
The one that we love to hate
They can’t comprehend beauty isn’t fate

Nothing is handed to you on a plate
And nothing comes without a price
It would make it all too easy in life
Always overwhelmed is pretty’s price

A victim or a winner; she can embrace her beauty with no apologies or be apologetic for what she was born with!!  It's a shame that having beauty can almost make you a paraya amongst people. Well conveyed Marc :)
