Promises

Promises

Promises

He promised the earth
The moon and the stars
Diamonds and pearls
A big flashy car
The life of a film star
Champagne on ice
Banquets and feasts
Parties all night

He promised a mansion
Fit for a queen
Wall to wall flowers
A picturesque scene
Chandeliers made from crystal
Mirrors of gold
Soft leather chairs
A sight to behold

She listened amused
As she looked in his eyes
His promise of grandeur
She knew where all lies
She’d heard it before
Time after time
She smiled at him sweetly
And poured some more wine

He promised the earth
The moon and the stars
The world on a plate
As they sat at that bar
Times getting on
Last orders done
She phoned him a taxi
And sent him along home
