Rat Run

Rat Run

Stale life of monochrome trapped souls
Yearning to be free inside a prism
Beating wings behind cold bars
Incarcerated butterflies in prison

Stitched shut is the minds eye
In such bleak situations
Join the que at the food bank
Wave the patriotic flag
Of a drop forged sullen nation

Distorted minds have clear vision
Pearlescent minds can cope
Darts aiming for treble twenty
Inside the caphofony of a kaleidoscope

Relic music wrapped in vinyl
Taught tensile words in books
Relished by the recipient
Once the minds eye
Listens and looks...

Rodents are content with a short life
The blinkers are on in rat runs
Some battery farmed minds aren't meant to be free
Aren't those the lucky ones?

Definitely ruts. It feels like the ink well is very nearly dry for me. Good to see you're still writing. It's not often I visit Cosmofunnel anymore.

Hello Syd,
your first stanza pulls you straight into what feels like an epic reality check. I feel the frustration here. Are we not all prisoners oblivious to our wings being clipped. Not realising we are in some form of cosy prison, or maybe not so cosy as late for many who struggle more than ever now. The government walk around with blinkers on, pretending they have the good of the people in mind. They are like a pack of wolves feasting on the many so they can sit comfortably numb in this rotten reality we find ourselves in. Sorry for the rant but I feel done with society. Your words homed in on my thoughts. This is a wonderful well penned piece. I am glad you picked up your ink pot and delved into poetry again :) xx

Thank you for your kind comment Gwen. I'm glad you enjoyed this piece. Your rant is very much welcome as I feel the same way about the current government.

Thanks for stopping by. Take care  - Syd xx

This is friggin' BRILLIANT SYD!!!!.....the mind's eye is one of my favorite pieces of subject matter and you have laid bare one of the most interesting aspects of it for those who even dare to delve.....inundated with the bullshit that so many of us allow to wash over us,,,,even though we may do it unwittingly....The knowledge that there are people like you in the world makes me happy to be experiencing what this reality has to offer at this point in time.....a most excellent use of poetic prose brother!!.......I Love your mind brother!!.......PINNED!!.....LOVE & ROCKETS!!......T xo  : )
