Returning to a place I've never been
Refreshing a picture that I have never seen
It sounds the same
It smells familiar
But it's been too long
And all has shifted
I left on a perfect day
by yacht with paradise tropical
glistening upon the bay's edge
I left on a day with the darkest of storms
raging in my heart

The breeze carried the brightness of bliss
The spirit conveyed a hex of war drum and hiss
An escape for those who'd enter
An exile for me fleeing
When I left you here 7 years ago
When I saved myself for your sake
When I sacrificed my hopes and your youth
to protect your innocence
and baptise you into the adult world

I left you in the hands of the reckless
to ensure you be cared for
I departed with a heavy heart
lightly upon the waves
even lighter upon the winds
I left you in the trust that you would find me
or I find you
In a place we've never been
