Reach For More

What is gleaned I wonder from a first and fleeting glance?
Should we leave our mortal fate within the hands of chance?
I've heard of some who never jump, who never reach for more,
For fear perhaps of falling so instead they just ignore.
Perhaps they're not aware of that supply of dwindling time
The clock is winding ever down - we all shall cross that line.
So why then should I play it safe and hope she comes my way?
The scythe could come tomorrow and just take it all away.
I'd rather live a life on edge and suffer if I must,
I will not be a'wondrin' when my joints accrue the rust.
The bounty could be wondrous there upon the upper shelf,
So go ahead and climb on up and see it for yourself!
Nothing ventured; nothing gained - you've heard it all before,
But truer words were never spoke, go out and reach for more.
