Recapture

The days of innocence long past,
Forgotten in the race to adulthood.
Too quickly left the games of play,
To immerse within the realm of seriousness.
Clay balls thrown with a reed.
Cans shot with a catapult.
Tree forts built to defend,
Even delicious mud cakes baked.
Outdoor fun raucously enjoyed,
Whilst running barefoot across the grasslands.
Free, free as any bird could ever be,
To persue adventures created by ones mind.
Laughing joyously, with companions of sworn blood.
Swinging over ponds of sparkling cool water,
As the sun smiled down, bronzing our pale skin.
Splashing, frolicking fun, before Adams curse found us.
Too soon our eyes corrupted us!
Smiling, luscious visions of beauty,
With hair like Medusa, made us hard as stone.
Awakened desires, craving gratification,
We surrendered unto powers we did not comprehend.
Like fruit ripened to soon, we rotted away,
Leaving sick fermented husks behind.
Now work, money and material possessions,
Dominate our time...
Slowly grinding away at time,
Awaiting our time to die,
We forget to live, to really live.
The passion to become free again,
Smoulders deep within,
Craving to be released again.
Youthful spirit struggling to break free,
from restrictive self imposed bonds,
Takes but a moment to release.
Take your shoes and socks off,
Let the grass caress your feet,
Soon you will remember a time,
A simpler time...
One where you were free,
Free to go and do as you please.
You owe it to yourself!
You are never to old to be a child again,
Go ahead...and remember...
I dare you...
