RECONNAISSANCE!

I rushed home this evening
Hoping to find you'd
Overlooked a scent,
A gesture or lingering
Laugh that might have
Been stuck between the
Hallway and the kitchen;
An indention of time
Pressed between our
Breakfast and my bath
That I could mold
Into the space which is now
Fully occupied by your absence.

Suddenly,
My eye is fascinated
By the reflection you left
In the mirror; I draw closer
To see you, chambered
In my heart, like bullets
In the barrel of a gun.
You aim without feeling;
Fire at point blank range
And deliberately miss the target!

I know you marksman, hunter...
Yet, you let the recoil throw you
Beyond our agreed parameter.
This is a reconnaissance mission!
A foray into our relationship
To search and discover plausible
Reasons to maintain a strategic,
Well fortified location to love each other;
Mind to mind, heart to heart, body to body!
I've exposed my position; but I'm
"Vested" for the impact!
