Reflections

Reflections

In the mirror hanging on the wall, I met insecurity.

Oh, large was she and ever growing.

And, "Why do you stare, so endlessly?" I said.

"Why the never ceasing envy in your eyes?"

"You that speak," so she said, "Your words of criticism, forget so soon,

But I am lost in the pool of the unworthy."

I knew from this that the words, so full of pride,

Were the knives that killed confidence.Ā

I knew the dread of the mirror. But the beauty,

The beauty of acceptance, was disappearing,

As insecurity grew.

In the mirror, hanging on the wall.
