21st Century Refugee
I am a stranger in a strange land
Your words sound strangely unfamiliar to me
My head echoes to the whistling of bombs falling from the clear blue sky
A casualty of the global war for oil
I am a refugee
Torn from all that means home to me
Family, friends, smells and sights
All lost in the perpetual fight
I have walked 3,000 miles
Endless days without your smiles
To an unknown future across the seas
In search of Peace and a land to be free
I am nothing but a stranger in this land
Believe me when I say "It's not the life I'd planned"
Endless days marching through the rain
Borders, mountains and plains
A safe haven from all the pain
I am a 21st Century Refugee
Looking for a home to simply be
Searching for an end to endless war
Peace and stability and a place to call home.
So if you meet me on your streets
Tired and confused
With eyes that tell a thousand stories
Remember I did not want to leave my home
I am a 21st Century Refugee.

Hi DD, this poem tells a very real story of a modern day refuge. Well written.

Many Thanks Syd. Much appreciated. I think we have all met refugees fleeing from wars in the past decade.I just tried to imagine how it felt for them being a stranger in a strange land. DD x
My heart goes out to those people who are seeking to find a place of safety for themselves and their families..I myself wrote a poem about this very subject called 'Somewhere Beyond Home' Your poem is a poignant piece , well written and one to remain in the readers consciousness. x
