Riding

This bicycle I ride with fury, with haste.
As if fleeing a storm; no time to waste.
I find within a strength not known.
It arrives with a savage guttural moan.

My eyes blurred my focus fixed.
I see the path ahead,
emotions mixed.

I have a fear palpable and real.
I ride toward it and from it,
Not knowing what to feel.

Yet to not have that fear
is the greatest fear of all,
It conjures for me a life not lived,
Not beckoning the call.

A call deep within
commanding my will
A will at once free,
yet enslaved ever still.

Chained to my mission, my passion,
My purposeful reaction,
I turn the pedals, breaking free
Of the reality of what would be,
A life lived within the storm
From which I flee.
