Poem -

Rise Again

I have seen you in your finest hours

And your darkest…

You were a marvel only few could rival

A hero to the ambitious

You were my hero too…once

There was an immeasurable determination unparalleled

Like the San Fernando dry brush, a wild competitive fire burning within

A thing to be admired

To be emulated… cherished

You could entice even a blind skeptic to hang on your every word

And to hone in on your vision like no other I’d seen

An innate ability to acquire adequate light in a tumultuous abyss

There was no better salesman of the English language

There was no better pitchman for your brand

And there was no bigger consumer of your product

Not a bigger one than me

But somewhere, in some way you lost yourself

Your character was boldly abducted

Integrity that was slowly siphoned

You blinded the one person you were always honest with

The one who was never afraid to see truth

Or to seek refuge in self examination

The one who was never to proud to improve

Yourself…

You failed to find favor in the most glorious gifts you were blessed with

Those same miracles bestowed upon you by the same one that gave you life

To often indulging in your own desires

Instead of seeking that much desired euphoria in those same miracles

There is no love like that of them

That same love you assume will be there… regardless

I wish for those things, you had shown that same unrelenting will

Well I implore you

Initiate your own resurrection

And rise again

Take those to task who challenge your resolve

The same who believed in you once

Those like me

Find your reflection and search yourself

Assess blame where you will but understand this

There is no growth in deception of self

No matter how convincing

So,

Find a path in your own redemption

Believe that you can

And rise again

For me

And for them
