The Road Never Traveled

I came upon a road, a road we all know
There were two paths. I took the road traveled more
For I was afraid to open the wrong door
I didn’t want to start without room to grow
Who knew what my life had in store for me
I could do anything I put my mind to, right?
Wrong. I thought my future was set. It looked bright
But following people wasn’t the ultimate key
While everyone else was making tons of money
I was in the streets begging for some dimes
When that failed, I resorted to all sorts of crimes
Life turned gray and no longer was it sunny
You always get caught—I ended up in jail
A cold, depressing, heartless, tedious place
Where if you do not man up, you lose your face
When I escaped jail I had become so frail
No longer did I want to live—I had no doubt
So I found myself with a gun in my hand
I knew my hourglass was running out of sand
This is not how I thought my life would turn out
A gun would kill me fast, no need for a knife
So I loaded the gun. Six bullets in all
I raised the barrel. I did not want to stall
And with the click of a trigger ended my life.
I came upon a road, a road we all know
There were two paths. But, I didn’t take the one traveled more
And neither did I take the one less traveled
This time I took the road never traveled, the one that didn’t exist, and created my own path
And it has made all the difference
If you could get another chance in life, would you take it? I would.
