ROGER BANNISTER

ROGER BANNISTER

The date was the 6th of May 1954 and Oxford was the place
The stage was set for this landmark race
Bannister, Brasher and Chataway were among these running men
A day of destiny that would be mentioned again and again

For on that day the sub four minute mile was broken
Many words on that day have since been spoken
It was Bannister the victor who received adulation and praise
He would remember that day for the rest of his days

Let's not forget Roger Bannister as his final race is done
A legend, a sporting icon and England's favourite son
