Saturday Night

I used to envy the big parties I never went to

To wake up and see all the pictures

on my screen

of people and places I didn’t really care for

The keg stands, the drama,

regretful sex, and tears

All to be fogged off by memory-loss and next morning’s hangover

But that’s okay because you didn’t want to remember that anyway

And all the mistakes of last night’s liquor

Is flushed away down the toilet

Then you turn around and say

“Great night with some great people!”

To caption all the pictures you don’t remember taking

One day I was finally invited to one of the parties

And I could finally be in all these pictures

on my screen

with the people… and a place, I didn’t really care for

That’s when I realized I didn’t like parties

The keg stands, the drama,

regretful sex, and tears

It doesn’t go away just because you don’t remember

And I wanted to remember.

To remember the Saturdays spent

With a small group of people I love

In a place I feel comfortable.

The kind of night I could never just flush down the toilet

The starry Saturday nights I hope will never fog over
