Sea Birds

The seagulls sat
Bracing themselves in semi
circles
Along the pier
Feathers ruffled, heads tucked
Plumage tinged
Black as the turbulent sky

Which pushed and shoved
Raged and screeched
Ranted and bellowed
Not one ounce of love

For you or for I
Or for anything ever
That moved beneath tendrils
of sky

On a circle of nothing
Turning nowhere through darkness
Like the seabirds who boldly
and bravely
Yet hapless

Still dare to dream upwards
Dare to defy
Dare to spread wings
Dare to take off
And fly
