seabed

seabed

The floor was deep
under the waters
– seabed −
and I was walking alone
among the fish
(how did I get here?).

A surge of anger swept through
the waters (why) and still
I was alone among the fish,

I saw my breath in bubbles,
as if speaking hurt
unspoken
I could not
translate, yet still I listened, for
moon’s pathways found the seabed

and shells in shifting sands
began to whisper in a
language of light vibrations

– soft movements uplifting
for the gloom was gone from this bay
that never drowned me –

When I truly woke, I found my cat sleeping
in my lap, purring softly
in a patch of moonlight that had worked
its way through a crack between the curtains.

I had been crying in my dreams
as you too lay on your dreamway beside me.

I was never alone
on any path
towards now…

You were deep under water but never drowned. This is very powerful, John.
