Seafaring Lullaby

No longer the wind beneath your sails

As we roam uncharted seas

As we tumble waves and tackle whales

In groups of twos and threes

The dark beneath the waves that crest

All frothy-tipped in white

The song that puts my heart to rest

Beneath the pale moonlight

You sit and watch the waves with me

By galley, nest, and oar

The seagulls taunting because they’re free

They tease us as they soar

Bound to the waves, are you and I

There is no other way

We muster up the strength to die

And live once more today

If you will never let me in

To clean the oars and rudder

Then down the whirlpool you’ll spin

Through lightning storm and thunder

Allow me now to wash you of

Barnacles and seaweed

And if you have the strength to love

I hope that it will be me.

Red Teapot

Shiny and

Slightly battered

My fingerprints mar the perfect red glow

Of the teapot...

Bus Stop on 65th Street

I sat on the bench

at the bus stop

under the awning

beside the recycling bin....
