Silence of the Night

I sit here pondering
in the silence of the night,
And wonder while u slumber,
If you would awake with a fright,

If this slumber journeys you
To a time not far from now,
And shows the near future
As clear as your eyes allow

We all stripped bare of belongings
And every worldly care,
What would we see in each other,
To look should you even dare?

Our minds remember not
The past five minutes ago
Yet the faces are familiar
All running to and fro

What good would shine from you?
What love will I see flow?
What mercy would trickle forth?
And will compassion glow?

Look into your souls
if present they are tonight,
Forgotten is the spirit
Extinguished is that light,

Empty, hollowed bodies
Controlled by greed alone,
Dig deep before its too late
And your hearts turn to stone...

Awaken at the break of dawn,
Awaken with a fright,
Open up those sleepy eyes
And please let in the light...
