Silver Screens

Silver Screens

It is on such rain soaked days as this
I return to the old cinema
The one we loved so much.
Full of yesteryear velvet and filigree
Still untouched by modern technology.
I have seen the movie many times before
And can almost recite the script.
Bogart and Bacall kiss as always.

Remember when we watched this one.
My love for you was limitless
We would return to my small flat
and make tea and love.

You were so lovely so breathtaking
Far beyond an ordinary man like me.
I knew even then it could not last
And I would fall too deep and
Get a broken heart.

I know after all these years
I have not moved on asĀ
perhaps I should.
My heart has remainedĀ
a vacant place.
Sometimes In this old movieĀ
I feel your hand slip into mine
and for just a moment.
you are with me once more.
And the world is a brighter place.
