Simon Says

Simon Says

My name is Simon Wiesenthal, and I’ve spent now fifty years;

On tracking down the old Third Reich, now, it “me” they truly fear!

For in my youth I was so scared of them, they called us “filthy Jews”;

But now I’m playing “Simon Says”, for the world to punish you!

As a youth I lost my Father, a casualty of World War One;

He was an officer fighting for Austria, who was felled by an enemies’ gun!

We lost the war, and foreigners then came as per accord;

They disliked Jews and one of them, scarred my face with his sharp sword!

After graduating college, I became an engineer;

I set up shop and married Cyla, we loved each other dear!

But in thirty-eight the Russians came, closed me down, and gave me a new job;

Had I not had money for some bribery, we’d have landed in Siberia to sob!

The Nazis came in forty-one; we worked in railway plants;

My Cyla escaped through the “underground”, I was sent to camps!

I ran away, they brought me back; I tried twice to slit my wrists;

But the Nazi Doctors saved my life, isn’t that an eerie twist!

In forty-four some SS guards, took the prisoners on the run;

Now just down to thirty-six, a hundred thousand had begun!

Finally, in forty-five, the Americans rescued me;

At six feet tall, I weighed one hundred pounds, a bag of bones I be!

But slowly then my health returned, and I found my precious wife;

We’d both lost most our families, who’d lost their kindred life!

We landed back in Austria, and I then made up my mind;

To never stop tracking these criminals, and wreak justice on all I’d find!

It started out at Nuremburg, soon after World War Two;

With the trials of many officers, who had slaughtered many Jews!

Their arrogance had disappeared, as they cried and for mercy they had pled;

But the Judges were not buying it, and gave them sentences be dead!

I opened my new office in Austria, in Linz, again a city “proud”;

For they’d eradicated it of the vermin used to be; the “filthy Nazi crowd”!

The leads came in from far and wide, every day my files grew;

If you had ever worn the Swastika, there was a good chance I’d find you!

I was good friends with Ben-Gurion, and Golda Meier too;

They both called up and said to me, we’ll send Mossad to you!

And then my business really grew, for there’s no team on this earth;

That Nazi hunts as well as them, for they’ve hated them since birth!

We learned that many had fled Europe, and then to South America they ran;

Particularly to live in Argentina, for Juan Peron said “yes you can”!

I’m sure they gave him millions, to get him to say okay;

So we started there to concentrate, and kidnap them away!

Our greatest coup was Adolf Eichman, a name on our “Top Ten”;

We found him outside of Buenos Aires, and we brought him home again!

We also got Franz Stangl, the Commandant who raved;

And Karl Silberbauer, who sent Anne Frank to her early grave!

We captured tens of thousands, and gave them their “fair due”;

Before they died we smiled at them, and said “This is for the Jews”!

I’ve worked for fifty years at this; the Nazis fear my name;

For my name is Simon Wiesenthal, and “Simon Says” my game!

Larry.....I am so bloody proud of you for this piece!!..... and if Simon were here now he would be thrilled with such a beautifully well written, descriptive piece that is a superbly written beautiful tribute, about all the very important and extreme hard work, that Simon carried out throughout his life, for all the many millions of innocent lives that were lost because of all that pure evil from that maniacal monster `Hitler! You have told Simon`s story absolutely beautifully here and brought me to tears with the love and care you have put into this wonderful piece. God bless you sweetie, I am so very proud of you and your talent and tell Linda to give you a big hug and a kiss from me won`t you please.

I love you both dearly and I really found this piece informative, beautiful and very, very moving. You have done the Jewish nation very proud, well done my darling and God bless your beautiful soul.

I love you

G xx

Hi Georgina,

As usual, you take my breath away with your accolades.  I find myself in an unexpected, unbelievable place, which supersedes anything I ever dreamed of when I first started posting poetry, with bated breath, on cosmo!  It is also unbelievable to me that the passion of my dearest little soulmate Nico, could engender such productivity.  In the last few months Linda and I have found a treasured new family, a coterie of poetic scholars that are the truest friends one could ever have. I don't have the words to express my gratitude. I am sending the exact same response to you and Cherie, for the two of you are so dear to our hearts!

Peace and Love,

xox Larry

What I call a teaching poem.

We truly underestimate the power of a poem as a teaching (learning) tool.  For anyone like me, who has trouble remembering dates, events and the people in them, a poem recited is the best way to memorize them.

Like a lot of guys, I have a tendency to forget birthdays and anniversaries.  And oh, how I've paid the price.  That was till I put them into nifty poem, to help me remember,  That's because I realized, that an air head like me, who can't remember his Social Security number, can remember when Columbus sailed the ocean blue, in 1492.

Good work,

Hi Rock,

Thank you for your kind comments.  You're right.  If Simon didn't get them, The "Big Guy" will!
