Simple American

We are the simple ones disregarded or expendable.
We drink up allowances and fear the leash.
Freedom we sing cowed in our homes bound by invisible manacles.
Until our songs are banned then forgotten.
We pray for peace while our feet are buried in anothers land and are fed with lies and war. We stay silent because we fear the lash is worse than the leash.
But we are awake. We are stirring our sisters, our brothers, our parents and our friends.
Our teeth are bared in smiles and our eyes are open.
We may be heaped upon the bodies of our ancestors with those smiles but our civil unrest will echo in history books, stories and legends until there is no one or nothing left to tell them.
