Skin Deep
Hair of golden blonde,
Skin as white as snow,
Eyes as blue as sapphires
And a little button nose.
The girls all want to be her,
The boys can't help but stare,
They wish they too could go around
Without a single care.
Freckles dotted elegantly over her cheeks,
Which are pink as a freshly bloomed rose,
She is the epitome of beautiful
From her head right to her toes.
But what these people do not see,
No matter how hard they stare,
Is that under all the beauty and style
Is a soul that's tattered and bare.
They think that she is happy,
They think her life is swell,
But in her mind are demons so fierce
She's too afraid to tell.
So please don't judge the cover,
Or make conclusions off the blurb,
Take the time to read the pages for you'll see
The gap between truth and reality is superb.
We're all beautiful in our own ways,
Don't be fooled by your idea of a pretty face,
Just because something looks good on the outside
Doesn't mean it's interiors are in the right place.
Get to know the person for real,
Their heart their soul and mind,
You'll see that you will be quite shocked
At the truths that you may find.
The girl that looks so wonderful,
That has a big bright smile,
May be hurting on the inside
So stop and talk to her for a while.
Ask her how she's feeling,
And when she tells you "fine"
Press and say "no really"
And let her thoughts unwind.
We are all only human,
And beauty is skin deep,
Stop focusing on yours or others' looks
And instead focus on treasures, like friendship, to keep.
