Sleep Now Mother

Sleep Now Mother

I held her hand as a child, played games whilst she smiled,
I walked to school in the morning and stories were told whilst yawning,
Kisses were shared when the rain was falling and it was always "have a good day my little darling".

You had tired eyes like a loving mother,
Never stopping, you held family together,
Strength showed when I lost my brother,
Still, you were a woman like no other...

You gave me away, when I got married, you were even there when he vanished,
You helped me through the tough times, you even taught me how to be a parent.

From a little girl to a grown woman, I still held your hand whilst humming,
?Close your eyes, think of me, ?dream a dream, ?someday it'll soon be coming?,
I had the tune in my head you sang, whilst rocking me to sleep,
I just never thought I'd be doing the same to my mother who's so weak.

You had tired eyes like a loving mother,
Never stopping, you held family together,
Strength showed when I lost my brother,
Still, you were a woman like no other...

As I sit here holding your hand, I ache that you're grey and withering away,
I have a daughter that I see yourself in, so I feel that the future will be ok,
As I hum the tune from our happy days, go and see dad's waiting face.
As I nurse your head, please go mam, sleep, never wake again...

Memories of you are with me now, I'll tell my kids and grandchildren,
I held you in my arms and felt you in my heart, while you were living,
Memories of you made me so proud, leave now and sleep between the clouds,
All I know that you're at peace now, I see it in your eyes and now I feel it in my heart.

You had tired eyes like a loving mother,
Never stopping, you held family together,
Strength showed when I lost my brother,
Still, you were a woman like no other...

Goodbye mam,
Close your tired eyes and sleep,
Goodnight mam,
Say hello to dad for me please,

You were a woman like no other,
You were mine,
So goodnight,
?Close your eyes, think of me?
?Dream a dream?
?someday soon, I'll be coming...?

Sleep now,
My mother...
